Wi-Fi Detector Shirt At ThinkGeek.com…

My fave store for all things slightly geeky, ThinkGeek.com is selling a Wi-Fi detecting shirt…

Here at ThinkGeek we’re pretty lazy when it comes to technology. We expect our gadgets to do all the busywork while we focus on the high level important tasks like reading blogs. That’s why we hate to have to crack open our laptops just to see if there is any wi-fi internet access about… and keychain wi-fi detectors, we would have to actually remove them from our pockets to look at them. But now thanks to the ingenious ThinkGeek robot monkeys you can display the current wi-fi signal strength to yourself and everyone around you with this stylish Wi-Fi Detector Shirt. The glowing bars on the front of the shirt dynamically change as the surrounding wi-fi signal strength fluctuates. Finally you can get the attention you deserve as others bow to you as their reverential wi-fi god, while geeky chicks swoon at your presence. You can thank us later.

They also have many other uber-cool items. Check them out for cool gift ideas or just for something extra special for yourself. ;)

Keyword Rich Domain Names In 3 Easy Steps…

Try this technique for coming up with some keyword rich domain names…

Here is the Google Adwords tool mentioned in the video.

You can check the domains in GoDaddy’s Bulk Domain Checker or any other free bulk domain checker such as Moniker’s Bulk Domain Checker.

You can then go ahead and register the domains you want anywhere you like.

My choice would be 1&1 Internet because they are cheap but also provide good customer support and cheap hosting packages. You can host up to 50 domains on their Home Package for around $5 a month. The domains you host will share a massive 120GB of webspace! Plus you get Free Private Domain Registration if you want it!!!

February Firesale With WordPress Themes, Facebook Social Ads, Craigslist Guide & More…

BuyNowDeal.com has a new offer for February. This month they are offering 24 products with resell rights. All products come with either Master Resell Rights (MRR) or Private Label Rights (PLR). Just like last month’s offer they are increasing the price each week in February. The price is currently $17 but will go up $5 each remaining week in February.

  • Firesale Week 1 - 1st Feb - 7th Feb - $12
  • Firesale Week 2 - 8th Feb - 14th Feb - $17
  • Firesale Week 3 - 15th Feb - 21st Feb - $22
  • Firesale Week 4 - 22nd Feb - 29th Feb - $27

There is an interesting combination of products on offer this month. Facebook Social Ads (with Master Resell Rights) is a guide to Facebook’s answer to Google Adwords PPC. Craigslist Marketer Pro (with MRR) is a package consisting of a guide, video, speadsheet and list of popular cities. It is being sold for $10 separately on the site through the product mini-site. It’s surprising just how much traffic flows through Craigslist each day. The package shows you how to get started and how to avoid getting your posts flagged or deleted. It’s actually pretty useful, even if you don’t think Craigslist has much to offer your existing website. Give it a try and see the response you get! ;)

Netscape Is Dead… Long Live Firefox…

The Internet browser, which first introduced me to the Internet in 1994 is no more. As of February 1st 2008, AOL has ceased development of the Netscape web browser and is no longer providing support.

netscape2-splash

AOL’s director of the Netscape brand, Tom Drapeau has recommended that users of Netscape based browsers switch to Mozilla Firefox. Indeed, the last few releases of Netscape have been based around the popular open-source Firefox browser.

Drapeau writes…

“Given AOL’s current business focus and the success the Mozilla Foundation has had in developing critically acclaimed products, we feel it’s the right time to end development of Netscape branded browsers, hand the reigns fully to Mozilla and encourage Netscape users to adopt Firefox.”

Netscape Navigator faced heavy competition from Microsoft’s Internet Explorer during the browser wars of the later 90s. The fact that Microsoft’s browser shipped with every new Windows PC meant that Netscape’s market share was significantly damaged. This was central to the anti-trust case against Microsoft.

Later acquired by AOL, most people agree that much of the original Netscape died with AOL’s purchase. There have been a number of developments in the browser market in recent years. Mozilla mutated into the Firefox of today and new contenders like Safari and Opera appeared on the scene.

It remains to be seen what will happen to Netscape’s small development team. Official support ended February 1st but the Netscape community forum is still active. The Netscape web portal lives on, for now at least.

Anyone feeling nostalgic can always install the Netscape themes and add ons available for Firefox. Just search for Netscape and you’ll find plenty! ;)

Fanpop - The Next Generation Of Fansite…

It’s tough to keep up with the world wide web when it keeps getting bigger and bigger each day. Wouldn’t it be great if someone organized the web into topics you care about?

Four guys in San Francisco thought so too and created Fanpop!

fanpop

Fanpop.com is a one-stop destination for real people with real passions to find real content and community.

Remember when the web was small enough that you could look at a directory of the best sites on the web for a certain area of interest? We miss those days. :(
Fanpop is the next generation of fansite created for the fans by the fans. It’s a one-stop destination for fans of anything and everything and the place to find fellow devoted fans.

Fanpop makes discovering and sharing content fun, easy and social.

Fanpop is essentially a network of user-generated fansites for different topics of interest created and maintained by the community of fans. There fandoms are called a “spot” because it’s a place where you can hang out and get to know other fans.

Every spot has a bunch of really cool features that empower the fans to share and discover content and interact with each other.

In all spots you can find the following features:

  • Videos - kinda like youtube
  • Links - social bookmarking
  • Picks - choose between A and B type polls
  • Forums - you know what a forum is right?
  • Headlines - news from around the web
  • Soapbox - an article type publishing system
  • Image Gallery - can you say flickr?
  • Fans - like friends just called fans

You really should go check it out for yourself… Fanpop.com

Lookout for a deluge of cloning projects at a freelancing site near you soon. ;)
