An End To Google PageRank?

There are rumors floating around that PageRank is to be scrapped by Google.

Many people are making good money out of PageRank and many more focus their site’s marketing campaigns around PageRank. This rumor has a lot of people worried.

But when you look at the SERPs does PageRank really count? The answer it seems is no. Often low PR sites favor better than high PR sites in search results. But that hasn’t stopped an entire community of link sellers and directory owners basing their operations around PageRank.

After every big PR update the forums are filled with chatter about winners and losers along with offers of high PR links and high PR sites for sale to the highest bidder. Certainly PageRank is being abused and this needs to be dealt with.

I just heard that Google is actually planning to actually drop the public PageRank button from the Google Toolbar. This is certainly a move in the right direction.
