Wi-Fi Detector Shirt At ThinkGeek.com…

My fave store for all things slightly geeky, ThinkGeek.com is selling a Wi-Fi detecting shirt…

Here at ThinkGeek we’re pretty lazy when it comes to technology. We expect our gadgets to do all the busywork while we focus on the high level important tasks like reading blogs. That’s why we hate to have to crack open our laptops just to see if there is any wi-fi internet access about… and keychain wi-fi detectors, we would have to actually remove them from our pockets to look at them. But now thanks to the ingenious ThinkGeek robot monkeys you can display the current wi-fi signal strength to yourself and everyone around you with this stylish Wi-Fi Detector Shirt. The glowing bars on the front of the shirt dynamically change as the surrounding wi-fi signal strength fluctuates. Finally you can get the attention you deserve as others bow to you as their reverential wi-fi god, while geeky chicks swoon at your presence. You can thank us later.

They also have many other uber-cool items. Check them out for cool gift ideas or just for something extra special for yourself. ;)

Keyword Rich Domain Names In 3 Easy Steps…

Try this technique for coming up with some keyword rich domain names…

Here is the Google Adwords tool mentioned in the video.

You can check the domains in GoDaddy’s Bulk Domain Checker or any other free bulk domain checker such as Moniker’s Bulk Domain Checker.

You can then go ahead and register the domains you want anywhere you like.

My choice would be 1&1 Internet because they are cheap but also provide good customer support and cheap hosting packages. You can host up to 50 domains on their Home Package for around $5 a month. The domains you host will share a massive 120GB of webspace! Plus you get Free Private Domain Registration if you want it!!!

Netscape Is Dead… Long Live Firefox…

The Internet browser, which first introduced me to the Internet in 1994 is no more. As of February 1st 2008, AOL has ceased development of the Netscape web browser and is no longer providing support.

netscape2-splash

AOL’s director of the Netscape brand, Tom Drapeau has recommended that users of Netscape based browsers switch to Mozilla Firefox. Indeed, the last few releases of Netscape have been based around the popular open-source Firefox browser.

Drapeau writes…

“Given AOL’s current business focus and the success the Mozilla Foundation has had in developing critically acclaimed products, we feel it’s the right time to end development of Netscape branded browsers, hand the reigns fully to Mozilla and encourage Netscape users to adopt Firefox.”

Netscape Navigator faced heavy competition from Microsoft’s Internet Explorer during the browser wars of the later 90s. The fact that Microsoft’s browser shipped with every new Windows PC meant that Netscape’s market share was significantly damaged. This was central to the anti-trust case against Microsoft.

Later acquired by AOL, most people agree that much of the original Netscape died with AOL’s purchase. There have been a number of developments in the browser market in recent years. Mozilla mutated into the Firefox of today and new contenders like Safari and Opera appeared on the scene.

It remains to be seen what will happen to Netscape’s small development team. Official support ended February 1st but the Netscape community forum is still active. The Netscape web portal lives on, for now at least.

Anyone feeling nostalgic can always install the Netscape themes and add ons available for Firefox. Just search for Netscape and you’ll find plenty! ;)
